Method 1: Temporary SL Driving License ON ARRIVAL
Tourists with a valid country licence from his/her country (displayed in English ) can obtain a temporary Sri Lankan driving license upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport. This license allows you to drive rental cars for up to a maximum of 3 months during your stay.
King’s Rent A Car will assist you with:
- Understanding eligibility and required documents (Passport, Country DL) (Add photos)
- Navigating the application process at the airport counter with our Representative
- Ensuring your license covers the vehicle types you plan to drive (Cars, SUVs, Motorbike etc) (We DO NOT assist with TUK TUK licences)
- This service will be free of charge , however the following costs need to be paid by you at the Department of Motor Traffic Counter at Arrivals. Rates are as follows (Subject to change without notice)
Up to 1 month - Rs. 2,000.00
Up to 2 months - Rs. 4,000.00
Up to 3 months - Rs. 6,000.00
Method 2: International Driving Permit (IDP) PRIOR TO ARRIVAL
Travellers who wish to have the peace of mind of a guaranteed approval of driving legally in Sri Lanka can opt to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their country of residence. This IDP permit needs to be endorsed by the Sri Lanka Automobile Association (AA) which we will do on behalf of our client prior to his/her arrival.
King’s Rent A Car will assist you with:
- Communicating with you one on one via email/whatsapp so that you can submit us the necessary documents (Passport, Country Licence, IDP , Selfie Photo (PP style)) (insert sample photos)
- Upon receiving we will arrange the required AA Endorsement which we will scan and send you prior to your arrival. (Insert sample photo)
- Upon arrival our Representative will meet you at the requested prearranged location and hand over the original Endorsement together with your rental vehicle.
- This service will cost USD 40.00 per driver
