OVERVIEW

Evergreen forests inlaid with countless sand-rimmed lakes greet you at Wilpattu. These hundred-odd lakes are the result of natural depressions that were filled with rainwater. Located 185 km north of Colombo, it is known for being the country’s largest national park.

 
 
 
 

Travel to Wilpattu Take the Colombo-Chilaw Main Road and continue straight on the Puttalam road. Turn left at the Adlene Vitharana Memorial Statue and continue on the Wilpattu Road.

Wilpattu National Park Spanning a total of over 130,000 ha of forestland, Wilpattu is Sri Lanka’s largest national park. The biggest draws are its sloth bears & leopards besides the spotted deer, wild pigs, the endemic Jungle fowl & the barking deer. The best time to visit the park would be between February to October, although it is open for visitors all year round.

 

Kudirimalai Point The Kudirimalai Point, Located within the national park, marks a sit of both historical and cultural importance. The site is believed to be the place where King Vijaya landed in Sri Lanka – and it is his alliance with the island’s queen that gave rise to the Sinhalese people.
